Here at Anthem Homes, our design and building teams are always looking at ways to innovate, and we are excited to announce that we are now offering Light Gauge Steel (LGS) framing as an additional/alternative option to timber.
During the 2020 (and ongoing) global pandemic, innovative and dynamic thinking has never been more critical. With supply chains squeezed and specific pressure on a shortage of timber for framing, Anthem Homes quickly began to explore the use of steel framing. By creating secure New Zealand business partnerships and providing expert training for our build teams we continue to deliver quality homes on time and budget, while many other companies struggle.
Alongside The Perry Group, Anthem Homes is proud to be a founding partner of Perry Steel Framing, a highly engaged team motivated to deliver superior building products with light gauge steel (LGS) construction.
In September 2021, it was with great excitement, Perry Steel Framing commissioned a world-leading (made in NZ) Framecad cold roll forming machine at their Leamington facility. A critical early decision was also made to use Axxis Steel coil manufactured at NZ Steel in Auckland rather than imported steel. With covid supply chain issues, it is fortunate to have such a high-quality product made locally.
Light gauge steel (LGS) is a well-proven, versatile, and robust solution for residential & commercial building construction and is a common building system adopted worldwide. It does not contain the chemical treatments of timber and is, therefore, asthma friendly, with no mould and no rot. Axxis Steel coil used in forming frames etc., has even been recognised by the Asthma Foundation Sensitive Choice program.
Some of the advantages that builders enjoy when they utilise light gauge steel(LGS) framing in their construction projects rather than timber include:
Lighter than timber
More accurate than timber
Faster predictable delivery times
No toxic chemicals or mould
No shrinkage, twisting or cracking
Not affected by rain
Less waste on site than timber
Products are supplied to the site predominantly as panels, although where advantageous, they can also be pre-construct offsite into modular assemblies that improve construction efficiency and timelines for customers.
Whilst many building companies are experiencing delays and difficulties in delivering projects on time and to budget, through innovation, we at Anthem Homes have positioned ourselves to assist our customers in optimising their build and provide an enjoyable journey for the completion of their new home.
